CEREC 3D

CEREC
CEREC 3D is a high-tech instrument for the 21st century, used to restore damaged teeth. The dentist takes a series of 3D images of the tooth (teeth) to be restored along with neighbouring teeth, using a special camera. These images are then “stitched” together to create a highly accurate “optical impression” of the teeth. On this, the dentist can design the restoration required (Crown, Inlay or Veneer). Patients can watch this design process on a colour monitor. The restoration is then accurately milled out of a block of strong ceramic material (“pressed” porcelain, colour matched to the patient’s tooth) using diamond burs. This whole process is carried out while the patient waits (on average the milling takes about 15 minutes).
