Prevention

Prevention, as they say, is always better than the cure.

There are a number of common conditions that may affect the health of your teeth and mouth that are preventable by following a few steps in your daily health care routines.

Brushing

Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
Ideally, brush your teeth after eating rather than before. However, do not brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes after a meal as this can damage your teeth, particularly if you have eaten food high in sugar (sweets and cakes) or acid (fizzy drinks and fruit juices).

Cleaning in between teeth

Cleaning in between teeth is an important part of oral hygiene. It removes plaque and food particles from between your teeth and under the gum line – areas a toothbrush cannot always reach. You should clean between your teeth at least once a day with floss or an interspace brush.

Diet

Try to avoid eating foods and drinks high in refined carbohydrates such as fizzy drinks, sweetened coffee and tea, sweets and cakes.
