Fissure Sealants

Back teeth have quite complex fissures and grooves on their bite surface. They are a common area for decay to start. By sealing over these areas, the chance of decay starting is much reduced. Fissure sealants are ‘plastic’ colourless protective liquids, which are painted onto these surfaces They are then hardened by the application of a concentrated beam of blue light. They are permanent and remain in place for many years.

Tiny cracks appear in back teeth as they grow.

Food particles often become lodged.

Fissure sealant is applied in droplet form.

The sealant is hardened using a bright light ...
... protecting against tooth decay.
